The Acne Medications

Mild acne consists of small lesions such as blackheads, pimples or pustules that appear on or near the surface of the skin. As such, mild cases of acne can sometimes be controlled at home:

* Gently wash the affected area (s) with warm water and mild soap twice daily to remove dead skin cells and excess oil

* Use a topical (applied to the skin) over-the-counter acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid

* Use acne treatment exactly as prescribed. Acne is cleared only when treatment of the objectives of all that is causing acne. Because most drugs target acne only 1 or 2 cases, 2 or 3 products are often necessary. For clearer skin, these products should be used as prescribed.
